Fabric
and fibre art has been an amazing discovery for me.
Sewing was one of the first skills I learned as a girl, and being able to use
this 'traditional' skill in my artwork has been very exciting and
inspirational. My grandmother was a weaver and quilter, reusing fabrics from
garments to create useful items. I love this idea of making something new
from something old. I also love to use items in unconventional ways, so
sometimes my fabric art will include a tie as a strap or an old sweater that
was felted in the wash to make a bag or a tea cozy. I also like to
incorporate found objects into my creations. This may mean a feather, or an
old broach or pin, or antique beads. Fabric and Fibre
art offers a fabulously versatile form of art.
