Such events include municipal parades and festivals, events with Scouts or Guides, and those organized by service groups. GOTA

In the past the LNL ARES Group has participated in events such as: Guides on the Air (G.O.T.A.) February We normally set up at least one HF and one VHF station in an area large enough to accommodate 25 or more guides and leaders. The purpose is to make on the air contacts with other GOTA stations and enable the guides to learn about Amateur Radio. Typical start time is: 10:00 hrs. Prime contact person: Susan Grist, Perth Number of ARES persons needed: 4 or 5 Equipment needed: HF/VHF stations, antennas, computers Our prime purpose: To introduce guides to amateur radio. Our secondary purpose: further training for the Amateur members. We often serve hot chocolate, etc to those participating. Typical location: Perth OPP Conference Room

Festival of the Maples in Perth May

A Saturday event for the promotion of Lanark Co. Maple Products and the town of Perth. Includes entertainment and 30-50 outdoor booths many of which are vendors of maple products. It is an outdoor event occupying different sections of the town including a section of Gore Street. Typical start time is: 9:00 hrs. Prime contact person: Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Quattrochi. Number of ARES persons needed: 4, Equipment needed 4 HT's or MCP and 3 HT's Our primary purpose - Providing event info when requested Our secondary purpose Helping lost kids Location is where we are assigned, often in the Harriett and Drummond St. area

National Capital Cycle Tour

This event is a cycle tour from Ottawa to Kingston and return, starting on a Saturday and returning from Kingston on Sunday. Amateur operators are stationed at various intervals between the two locations. LNL ARES covers the route from Perth to Westport. Communications to the Ottawa Cycle Tour Control Centre in Ottawa may be required. For more information on the tour go to http://www.cyberus.ca/~obcweb/Touring/RLCT/. Our start time is: 9:00 hrs. Sat. and 9:00 hrs. Sun. Prime contact person: Keith Fish - Ottawa. Number of ARES persons needed: Six each day as a minimum, Equipment needed Six mobile/portable stations, MCP, HT's. (2 on 460.15 MHz) Our prime purpose To report on cyclists progress or problems such as the need for repairs or transportation. Locations to be served: Perth Curling Club, Junction of 6/36, Mountain Road R36, North Crosby, Recreation Complex and others. Finish time is: About 16:00 hrs Sunday in Perth and about 17:00 hrs in Ottawa .

Triathlon Perth July

A 2 to 3 hour event involving Swimming, Running and Cycling. Perth Fair Parade September

This parade has from 30 - 60 units. A unit may be a float, a car, marching band, group of clowns, etc. These units are judged and we often report results to officials at a media site. Typical start time is: 17:00 hrs. Prime contact person: Sherri Mahon, 264-0123 Number of ARES persons needed: 6 minimum 12 maximum Equipment needed 2-6 mobiles, 4-6 HTs Our prime purpose: parade flow control, safety: train announcements if starting from the Mall. Our secondary purpose: results of judging Start Location: Former Brown Shoe Factory on Sunset Bvld. Other location, from mall to Perth fair grounds. Goblin Patrol October (Haloween) Typical start time is: 19:00 hrs. Prime contact person: Perth Police, Number of ARES persons needed: 7 minimum Equipment needed 3 Mobiles and 1 Base station Our prime purpose: Observe and report vandalism Our secondary purpose: Report safety issues Start, Finish Location: Perth police station

Jamboree of the Air (J.O.T.A.) October

We set up at least one HF and one VHF station in an outdoor area with 50 to 150 scouts, ventures and leaders. The purpose is to make on the air contacts with other JOTA stations and showcase Amateur Radio. Start time is: Typically 10:00 hrs. Prime contact person: Valley Highlands Training Coordinator Roger Nuttall 613-264-0687 Number of ARES persons needed: 4 or 5. Equipment needed: HF/VHF stations, antennas, TNC's and computers Our prime purpose: To promote amateur radio, Our secondary purpose: Improve our ARES skills, outdoors Location: The Whispering Pines Scout Camp

Perth Santa Parade December

We provide communications to help with the parade progress, railway traffic and judging results. Typical Start time is: 17:00 hrs. Prime contact person: Sherri Mahon, 264-0123 Number of ARES persons needed: 6 minimum locations from Mall to Cockburn St 12 maximum Equipment needed 2-6 mobiles, 4-6 HTs Our prime purpose: parade flow control, safety: train announcements if the parade starts at the mall. Our secondary purpose: results of judging Start Location: Former Brown Shoe Factory on Sunset Boulevard. Other locations: Finish location Queen Elizabeth School.. (Police car and mid parade if possible)
