Volunteerism is essential to the health of a community and professional volunteer resource management practices are essential to the success of a voluntary sector organization. The volunteer management cycle provides the framework for any volunteer resource management training or consulting that I do and the principles of adult education are always incorporated.
It is very important to me to be “doing” and not just talking about volunteer resource management best practices. That means I actively put my knowledge to work and learn from my experiences involving volunteers and also being a volunteer. |

Whether it’s training or providing hands-on support, here is a sampling of projects that I have worked on…
- Reviewed, analyzed and documented community transportation services for clients with complex needs in Champlain District and provided a 75-page recommendation report to improve access and coordination – Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funded project
- Facilitated a one-day “Fundamentals of Volunteer Resource Management” workshop at the 2005 PAVR-O conference.
- Course coordinator for online volunteer resource management course – Capacity Builders at OCSA
- Supported 35 community support service agencies in Eastern Ontario to implement volunteer resource management best practices with a focus on recruitment, orientation, evaluation, risk management and discipline, dismissal and resignation – Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funded project
- Trainer for professional development workshops and certificate course (in conjunction with St. Lawrence College, Kingston campus) - Volunteer Kingston
- Developed training guides to be used nationally on volunteer management “hot topics” - Volunteer Canada
- Developed training guide to be used nationally by volunteer centres and United Ways on the key findings of the 2000 National Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating and facilitated a Train the Trainer session on the resource - Volunteer Canada
- Fundamentals of Volunteer Resource Management workshop for para-church ministries - Ontario Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship
- Implemented Safe Steps Screenings program and annual abuse prevention/policy training - Next Free Methodist Church, Kingston
