Back to school

Hello !

They arrived by bus at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning... all 355 of them, shining eager faces, anxious to see whose class they were in this year and catch up on the news with friends they hadn't seen in two months, and boy, were they excited... almost as nervous we, the 15 teachers at Perth Road Public School, turned out to be, waiting for the new academic year to begin. We each had our class lists ready and as the bell rang, it was just as if it had only been a three day break since we'd last seen our students.... as a matter of fact, that's what one of my favourite people, named Daniel, remarked to me later on at morning recess... He said, "Mrs. Leverette, I was really nervous coming back to school... like, I didn't know who would still be here, who would be new or whether I would like my new class... or even if I could do the hard work they say is in grade eight...." so, he continued, " I pretended the summer was just a long weekend and I was coming back on the Tuesday as usual." I thought that was a great way of looking at it too. Then, I didn't feel quite so worried as to whether I could do the job of teaching 25 children the things they need to know to make it in this big world... Daniel usually has those kinds of astute and revealing things to say and I'm glad I was listening to that very special boy....... So! it's a brand new year, with a brand new class of fresh, eager and trusting faces. Can I do it? According to Daniel, it's a piece of cake.... and more of the good news in my education!
