Pioneer Adventures program at Glanmore

Hello !

Without native people to help them adapt here in Upper Canada, when the early pioneers arrived, they might not have stayed. And today, young students in grades 1 - 3 discover just what it took to survive in the new world when they experience the Pioneer Adventures program at Glanmore, the historical site in Belleville. Its educational programs are suited to the Ontario curriculum in Heritage and Citizenship. So, children get to visit a General Store and pre-Confederation homestead displays and then tour Glanmore to see the contrast between early settler and wealthy Victorian lifestyles. They learn to identify the contributions made by Canada's aboriginal peoples to the lives of early settlers... ask them later and they can describe changes that have occurred in their own communities over time and generations.
Glanmore House invites classes of students to their Victorian Christmas tour and a special educational experience, learning about the "Home Children" ... more than 100,000 poor and orphaned children were sent to Canada in the late 1800's. Their lives of tragedy and triumph add to the understanding our children have of how times and lives change. Glanmore House in Belleville, more of the good news in education!
