The Ontario Centre for Advanced Technology

They say they'll be going where no broadcaster has gone before...and probably no teacher either! It's the new Ontario Centre for Advanced Technology in Learning, together with TV Ontario, and they are heading for the millennium with tech-based learning for students. Programs are beamed via satellite from TVO studios o schools. Two-way audio handsets take students on a virtual field trip to the Science Centre, the National Gallery and even bear watching in Algonquin Park! Students ask questions of the teacher and discuss ideas across hundreds of miles. Last year, eight courses began the initiative...math, science and chemistry...even a little Shakespeare.
There's something about technology that turns kids on, but the subject matter is so "real" and students can communicate with each other around the province without leaving the classroom; it makes TVO and the Ontario Centre for Advanced Learning more of the "good new" in education! "AN EDUCATED MINUTE IS BROUGHT TO YOU TODAY BY THE HASTINGS PRINCE EDWARD BOARD OF EDUCATION...I'M KATHY LEVERETTE."
