Neil MacIntosh Sr. & Mary MacMillan

Neil was the second child of David & Betsey MacIntosh, born 3 March 1819 [1]. He married Mary MacMILLAN, who was born in Cape Breton in 1822. Their children were:

Mary died 28 March 1872, and Neil Sr. died 4 November 1893. They are buried in Bouctouche [2].

[1] David MacLelland, letter to Duncan MacIntosh, 31 March 1972. The year is confirmed by various census returns. Deedie suggested Neil Sr. was born in Lower Canada before the family moved, but Neil consistently reported to the census-takers that he was born in New Brunswick.

Neil MacIntosh Jr.

Neil Jr. married Margaret (born about 1851, maiden name unknown) and lived for a time on the family farm with his father. Sometime in the 1880s they moved to Amherst, Nova Scotia. Then in April 1893 Margaret died of consumption. Neil soon began to show signs of the same disease and succumbed in October 1894. They left ten children, of whom I can identify eight: [3,4,4a,4b]

I'm unable to determine what became of the children after that.

David MacIntosh & Annie Carter

Neil Sr.'s youngest son David also stayed at home to help on the family farm, looking after his father after his mother's death. David married Annie L. CARTER sometime around 1882. Annie was born in October 1854 in New Brunswick. David and Annie had the following children: [5,6]

In about 1895, after David's father had passed away, the family up and moved to Attleboro, Massachusetts. There David made his living as a house carpenter, while it appears at least some of the children went into the jewelry-making trade. In the 1900 census their household includes a boarder, James SINCLAIR, also born in New Brunswick and also practising jewelry-making. Despite numerous other connections between the Black River MacIntoshes and various Sinclairs, he does not seem to be related.

For some odd reason, Howard's birth in Massachusetts is also recorded in the Kent County birth register in New Brunswick (under the name "Harold").
