William John was the youngest son of John & Jenny Dickson, born 28 April 1838[1] while they lived in Roslyn on the River Philip. On 7 October 1869, William John married Caroline O'Brien of Roslyn, daughter of Nancy and Caleb O'Brien. [2] William and Caroline lived on Claremont and had four children:
Their infant daughter Carrie died in 1879, then their eldest son John the following year at age 10. Then their mother Caroline died in 1881 [3].
Within the year -- 2 November 1881 -- William married the 21-year old Sarah J. McLellan. Sarah was the daughter of Mary J. and Samuel McLellan of Five Islands.[4] William and Sarah had one child:
Then daughter Martha died of appendicitis in November 1887 at age 16 [6], leaving William John with a son by his first marriage and a daughter by his second and ending what was surely a tragic decade in his life.
William John lived until April 1918 and was buried beside his children and first wife in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. Sarah followed him there in 1938.
Thomas Minard Dickson married Florence Annie Canning of Apple River about 1916. They had six children, some of whom I believe are still living.
Winnifred E. Dickson married William Edward Clark of Shinimicas 1 September 1909.[7] They had six children, some of whom are still living.

A broken stone near his parents' which reads "Dickson, Died Nov. 1, 1880"
probably refers to John Alexander.
Caroline was still living at the time of the 1881 census:
River Philip "B" district, household 52.
