Lenora,1 the fourth daughter of John & Jenny Dickson, was born 28 October 1833.2 She married John Dykens in July 1856.3 They had these children:4-7
.
[1] Her name is variously spelled Lenora, Leonora, Leonara, Linna,
Helena, Lena, and possibly Alma.
[2] Date from Thomas Dickson's family bible.
[3] Marriage date from birth records for Sarah (which gives 14 July)
and Orissa (15 July).
John's surname is variously spelled Dykens, Dyken, Dikens, Deykins, Dakins, or Dickens.
[4] 1871 Census, River Philip A district, household 41.
[5] 1881 Census, River Philip B district, household 35.
[6] 1891 Census, River Philip district, household 134.
[7] Marriage dates and names are from county records unless otherwise noted.
[8] I had previously thought Alex married Lilla Mae Ward, but I recently
determined that Lilla Ward's husband was another Alex Dykens, son of Joseph
and Isabel Dykens. The fate of Alex son of John is unclear; I cannot locate him in the
1901 census.
[9] Doug Blue suggests her maiden name was "Bugley" or possibly
"Pugsley" and her first husband was John Dykens but I have found no support for this yet.
[10] "Frances" in the 1871 and 1881 census returns, "Emma F." in her marriage
record. I infer they're the same person by proximity of birth dates, and elimination of others.
[11] A birth record exists for a Sarah, born 11 July 1870 to John & Leonora
Deykins, which seems to match the Ellen appearing in later records.
[12] From her gravemarker in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
