Artist - Woodcarver

Biography

Chris Driver, a self taught artist, is a retired college teacher with a long-standing interest in the arts in general. Born in Great Britain, he served briefly with the Royal Air Force, emigrating to Canada in 1957. Having raised a large family he finally is able to indulge in his hobbies of painting and woodcarving among others. He paints mainly in acrylics but does dabble with other mediums from time to time. His wood carvings are executed in basswood and occasionally exotic hardwoods and are chiefly of wildlife subjects.

A founding member of the Canadian Aviation Artists Association, he is also co-editor of their newsletter Arial Views, and is currently a vice president of the organization. This active group is endeavoring to promote the genre of aviation art in Canada and has recently completed it's third annual convention in Ottawa Ontario. Membership is open to any person with an abiding interest in general aviation and is not restricted to artists alone. We are actively seeking more members particularly of the younger generation.

Chris has exhibited his work in the juried show, "Artflight" at the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa Ontario, the Electronics and Communications Museum at C.F.B. Kingston Ontario, the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto Ontario, the Norman Rogers Airport in Kingston, the Royal Canadian Air Force Memorial Museum in Trenton Ontario and has completed a great many privately commissioned pieces. His work may be seen at various venues in and around the Kingston area where his home studio-workshop is located. His other interests include aviation history, motorsports, ballroom dancing and the building and flying of radio controlled model aircraft.
