Collected Business Wisdom in New Book Compiled by SLC Students Kingston, ON —If I Knew Then…SLC Business Students Interview Business Professionls, a new book of interviews of business professionals collected by SLC business students, is ready to hit the shelves with a special book launch at the Campus Bookstore in Kingston on February 20 from 1 to 3 pm. Each semester, first-year SLC business students connect with professionals working in their future fields. Many of the interview subjects are SLC grads. The results are insigtful interviews that are selected, edited and compiled by a student editorial board. Darcy Voutt, now a marketing major, interviewed SLC alumnus Bryna Kennedy (a sales representative), and she had this advice for Darcy: “You do your job with 150% effort; you do all the tasks that no one wants, and make sure they see you [are] going above and beyond.” Another interview subject, Patrick Murphy, graduated from SLC with a Business Admin-Marketing diploma and offered Dave Oelrich advice that never goes out of style: “Handwritten cards, always saying please and thank you, proper dress—suit and tie, polished shoes—always being on time, a good handshake...they seem like such little things but to me are so important in life and in business.” "This project gives students the edge that they will need to succeed as other SLC grads have—the ability to look beyond the classroom while still there," said Christina Decarie, SLC Business professor. " The insight of SLC alumni is a critical part of this edge that will ensure that the reputation of SLC grads as leaders in their fields continues. This is the legacy SLC alumni has to offer. |
